I have worked Heather Thompson using the Active Isolated Stretching method to assist in rehab for a chronic low back issue. The results were immediate and dramatic - my back and hips are now much more flexible and I am now pain-free. Heather is a great teacher and really understands the human body and how change happens. She is also a skilled Pilates coach and I found the blend of AIS and Pilates to be really beneficial.

I am a golf professional and have struggled with low back pain and stiffness for many years (the golf swing creates a lot of torque on the lower back). The AIS method is one of the most effective protocols that I have used in my journey to a healthy back. If you play golf, you owe it to yourself to try AIS with Heather Thompson.

Heather is an amazing Pilates Instructor. It is easy to make an instant connection with her. Not only does she take the time to verbally explain each movement during a Pilates workout, she pays particular attention to what the body is doing and corrects the placement for the precise movement during an exercise. Her extensive understanding of human anatomy, as well as her humor puts the beginner Pilates participant quickly at ease, while still being able to put her skills into a great intermediate/expert workout.  Her low-key charm, attention to detail and her melodious voice, yes she sings during class, makes Heather an outstanding Pilates Instructor. You will have FUN while working out – outstanding!

Heather is great at giving people confidence. And she pushes me. I love it. She starts you right in when you get here and she doesn’t stop until you’re through – she’s very good. I see improvement all the time – each time I come. I love it. It’s a daily part of my life.

I am definitely not your average 61 year old lady.  I have lots of physical problems (which my numerous doctors all blame on my weight) that limit my activities in many ways.   I  have had both shoulders totally replace and one hip replaced.  I suffer from vertigo and plantar fasciitis in both feet along with a Morton’s neuroma in my  right foot.  Oh, and if you haven’t figured it out – I’m significantly overweight.  I have been taking private Pilates instruction several times a week for 5 years and my physical strength, stamina and range of motion is amazing to all of my doctors AND I FEEL WONDERFUL.  I still have lots of pain and restriction in my “bad hip” – my right hip and leg muscles so when Heather brought Active Isolated Stretch therapy to Breathe Pilates I thought I would try it.  I was hoping for a little more flexibility in my legs.  To coin an old Texas phrase – Boy Howdy, was I in for a POSITIVELY FANTASTIC experience.  I was quite apprehensive about AIS because I had never heard of it before and what I did read from an article sent out by Breathe Pilates to its clients left me more confused than ever, but I was willing to try it.  I had always been taught to stretch to the point of resistance and hold the stretch for 20 or 30 seconds.  Not so with AIS – someone helps you stretch a particular muscle for only 2 to 5 seconds, but you repeat several times in a row.  If I had not done my first session with Heather I would have never believed how AIS can improve not only flexibility but total range of motion.  By the time we finished stretching my “bad hip” and leg I could actually feel I was getting more range of motion and my hip actually did not hurt as much when I got up as it did before I started the session.  I literally felt I was floating the entire next week.  At my second session I told Heather about some muscle cramping in my mid-back and she had a stretch for that!  At my next Pilates class I again experience some muscle cramping in my back so my instructor allowed me to do the stretches Heather taught me and my back relaxed instantly.  I know I sound like some infomercial but I truly believe no matter what your basic physical condition learning to do stretches with Heather using the AIS method you can’t help but feel better.  The more you do the better you feel.  I have just completed 6 weeks of once-a- week AIS sessions and I am a MUCH MORE FLEXIBLE AND RELAXED person.  I know what I can do in the event of a spasm and I know I can take more classes if I get “rusty” and can’t remember the full routines I did.  AIS is a fabulous addition to anyone’s personal training regimen, no matter where you are starting from physically.

I can’t recommend Heather enough. Every session is a perfect blend of energy, motivation and expertise. Her positive attitude is contagious. You walk in feeling tired and leave feeling empowered and refreshed the way she explains each movement shows deep knowledge and ensures you  are doing everything safely and effectively.  she makes class fun, challenging and tailored to your goals. If you’re looking for someone who inspires you to push your limits while keeping it enjoyable, Heather is your choice.

I had back surgery 25 years ago and although it was deemed “successful,” the damage had been so extensive that I spent the next 20 years on a mix of anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxers and pain pills. I didn’t take them every day but they were a constant in my life as were various types of physical therapy. I finally weaned myself off all the meds and just dealt with the pain, for the most part. In the fall of 2019, the pain became so bad that I was sent for an MRI and diagnosed with 2 more herniated discs, 1 of which had a cyst in the middle of it and fairly broad stenosis. I went through a series of spinal steroid shots and although they helped, steroids aren’t a long-term solution. I did a lot of research and decided to try Pilates to help build core strength and increase my flexibility. A.TOTAL.LIFE.CHANGING.DECISION!

I started training with Heather in September of 2020. I will forever be grateful to her and the tools she’s taught me to increase my strength, balance and flexibility. I have been completely pill and steroid free, for any back related pain since late fall, 2020. I cannot articulate how amazing, incredible and life changing this whole process has been. I am a complete convert and will continue with Pilates for the rest of my life. Heather is a talented, empathetic and total rock star trainer!! I cannot recommend her highly enough; she and her team of trainers are exceptional.

I had a successful and very fast unmedicated labor and i think a huge part of that was Pilates and the exercises you gave me!! Soooo thankful because my recovery has been AMAZING so far. And we are just all so in love with her. Can’t believe we have a girl!

I came to Heather after I was diagnosed with scoliosis as an adult and was having chronic back pain that was capable of putting me on bed rest for days at a time. I learned that my core dysfunction was exacerbating the condition and was told by my doctor that if I could strengthen my core, I would not be in as much pain.  A few weeks after I started training, I noticed my back pain went down significantly.  I had more range of motion, I was able to do more activities than I was before, and my afternoons weren’t spent on heating pads.  Coming to Core Mobility has restored my quality of life, made me more present for my children, and just happier all around. I can’t recommend Heather and her team enough!

Heather Thompson has made an incredible difference in my life. My low back is permanently damaged due to injury and arthritis. Before I started seeing Heather regularly a couple of years ago, I was often stiff and in pain. I reached for the Advil bottle as soon as I got up in the morning. Now, thanks to Heather’s expert guidance and the personalized programs she creates for me, my spine is flexible and I can move freely without pain. I feel strong and confident in my body. Best of all...no more Advil!
